We are delighted to announce that  IVF-Life , a  group of state-of-the-art fertility clinics offering genetic testing, immunology and regenerative medicine services staffed by its own laboratory within the group and with outstanding success rates in the market, has acquired the 100% shares of Licensed Center 0338, in Daresbury.

“This acquisition is a key milestone for IVF-Life’s international expansion plan, and our commitment to maintaining our position as recognized experts in the management of complex cases explains  Jon Aizpurua , founder and  president of the IVF-Life group.

For the UK clinic, this means a broader scope of service and an opportunity to continue to improve in all areas of the patient journey.

“This integration will allow our UK clinic to benefit from the experience and expertise of our Group colleagues while working within our UK regulatory framework.” comments  Jenny Dobbs ,  CEO of  IVF-Life UK.

In the first of our new series of ‘Meet the team’ blogs, we introduce Karen Dickens, who as Care Coordinator is a key member of our patient care team.

How did you begin your career in IVF?

I joined IVF-Life UK in May 2014. I saw the job advertised whilst I was working in an administrative role in the public sector and knew straight away that this was for the job for me, as I love medicine and welcomed the opportunity to work directly with patients in such a unique setting as an IVF clinic.

What are your main responsibilities at IVF-Life UK?

As Care Coordinator I am the point of contact for our patients who are undergoing fertility and IVF treatment, liaising with the nursing team and consultant to ensure that things go as smoothly as possible for the patients during their journey with us. I am there for them from their first consultation right up to reporting the outcomes of their treatment to our regulatory body, the HFEA (Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority). Along the way I arrange appointments, tests and scans, and deal with results and enquiries. I always ask patients to contact me at any time if they are unsure about anything or need any advice or support.  I also manage the diary of pregnancy outcomes and am lucky enough to share in our patients’ joy when a baby is born.  I am proud of the one to one care and personalised approach that IVF-Life UK offers.

What aspect of your role is the most rewarding?

The most rewarding aspect is meeting new patients and then helping to guide and support them on their journey. I feel very privileged when patients say they will always hold us in high regard when they have children and keep in touch and introduce their beautiful babies to us.   It is always a special moment getting to meet in person or see the photographs of the babies born after treatment here and sharing the joy of the new families that we have helped to create. Being part of a team that helps people’s dreams to come true is priceless and I am proud of the achievements and dedication of the whole team.

What keeps you motivated?

IVF-Life UK is developing all the time and striving to offer IVF’s best technologies and services to our patients – we are always looking to improve which helps to keeps me motivated as things are always changing and new opportunities opening up.

What would you advise people looking to start out in a role like yours?

If you are passionate about helping people a job in an IVF clinic can be one of the most rewarding career choices.  There are such a variety of different roles that suit your skills and interests and even whilst doing the job you can learn new things at the same time.

What are you most looking forward to about the future?

This is a particularly exciting time for IVF-Life UK as we have just joined forces with IVF Spain, who already have several clinics in Spain and one in Germany, to become part of the IVF Life Group. I am looking forward to seeing how our new partnership develops and the opportunities that this will bring for both patients and staff.

The new Pre-implantation Genetic Testing (PGT-ai 2.0 platform) enables increased confidence in the selection of euploid (ie, chromosomally normal) blastocysts for transfer in to the uterus and further reduces the risk of miscarriage. Therefore, the clinical advantage of combining IVF and PGT-ai is to produce, screen and select euploid blastocysts that can create live births.

At the IVF-Life UK we strongly believe that only the best quality genetically tested euploid blastocysts should be transferred to shorten the time to a healthy and uneventful pregnancy.

When should Pre-implantation Genetic Testing be used?

PGT-ai is potentially suitable for anyone undergoing IVF treatment but may be of particular benefit in the following scenarios:

  • For women over the age of 35
  • In cases where there have been several failed cycles of IVF already (recurrent implantation failure) or recurrent miscarriages
  • Where there is a known family history of chromosomal problems
  • The male partner’s sperm has been identified as containing a high number of chromosomal abnormalities.
