Time-Lapse Monitoring & Imaging

Time-Lapse Monitoring & Imaging system

The GERI™ timelapse system provides stable and undisturbed embryo culture for patients’ embryos and allows the embryologists to monitor embryo development by taking a photograph of each embryo every 5 minutes. The embryologists can therefore observe all the critical events during embryo development and analyse the timings of these events using software with AI technology which has been developed from the data collected from thousands of embryos worldwide. This allows the embryologists to select the best embryos for transfer and cryopreservation.

GERI Time-Lapse

Since time-lapse monitoring systems were introduced over eight years ago, over a million embryos have been cultured and there is now evidence that embryos cultured in a timelapse system will have a higher chance of implantation and a lower chance of early pregnancy loss.

Karen Schnauffer, the IVF-Life UK’s Laboratory Director explains

‘As an embryo grows there are constant changes and developments that we miss with conventional culture, where the dish containing the embryos has to be removed from the incubator to check the embryos. Although these observations are carried out very quickly to try to protect the embryo from damage, they can only provide a brief ‘snap-shot’ of the embryo’s development. The GERI™ provides constant surveillance for as long as we need without moving the embryos from their stable, controlled environment. The GERI has six independently controlled chambers, each equipped with high-definition cameras that provide the embryologists with continuous imaging without causing potential stress to the embryos’.

Selecting the best embryo with GERI™

An IVF cycle involves several different steps that will help you increase the chances of becoming pregnant. One of the steps is growing the embryos in a safe undisturbed environment and selecting the embryo most likely to result in the birth of a healthy baby.
